Education, Criminal Justice and Policing: Promoting safer and secure communities in Cumbria
Inaugural Seminar 30th June 2008 commencing at 6.30pm
When Government launched Cutting Crime, Delivering Justice: A Strategic Plan for Criminal Justice 2004-2008, the then Prime Minister Tony Blair stated that of all the public services New Labour had inherited, the one most unfit for purpose was the criminal justice system. New Labours agenda was to move towards a joined-up criminal justice administration to ensure effective local delivery, particularly for victims and those who cause harm to the community.
But what has come of this political rhetoric? Have the systems and insights of the criminal justice system been joined-up in a real and practical way in Cumbria? What has been achieved and what for the future? What is the role of education provided by the new University of Cumbria in assisting the process?
A Question Time Seminar, panel chaired by Professor Robert Hannaford (Dean of Faculty) will consist of the Craig MacKey (Chief Constable of Cumbria), Professor John Ashton (Regional Director of Public Health), Professor Chris Carr (Vice Chancellor, University of Cumbria), Richard Rhodes (Chair Cumbria Probation Board) and Claire Lindley (Chief Crown Prosecutor, CPS).
The seminar will commence at 6.30pm at the Conference Centre, Newton Rigg Campus, University of Cumbria.
The seminar is free of charge.
