This is the second year of the Scheme and in addition to the annual winners there have been a number of staff who received awards throughout the year for their outstanding efforts, dedication and commitment to the work of the Trust.
Employee of the Year (pictured above) was awarded to Peter Schollick, a Probation Service Officer based in Carlisle. He was nominated for his role in the development and implementation of the Veterans in the Criminal Justice System in Cumbria project.
Peter conducted in-depth research into this issue and his findings were captured and rolled out across the Trust through a series of briefings during 2010. This piece of work will improve the experiences of veterans in the Criminal Justice System and offer help and support to serving personnel leaving the services and reduce the number of these in the Criminal Justice System. This work has generated significant interest from both NOMS and the Ministry of Defence and ensured that Cumbria Probation Trust is leading on a national issue.
Team of the Year was a group of staff from the West Cumbria Probation Office. They were nominated for the joint work they undertook to devise a new way of working together in West cumbria. Their efforts ensured that full services to the courts were maintained and minimal disruption was caused to offender reporting during the transition period.
The award for Lifetime Commitment was made to Derek Irwin, a Probation Officer based in Carlisle and who mostly now works in the Courts. Derek has worked for Cumbria Probation for almost 25 years and prior to this he was a volunteer for a number of years. He is a positive role model for new members of staff and uses his knowledge and experience to support his colleagues across the county.
