Equality and DiversityThe Cumbria Probation Board affirms its commitment to the principles of human dignity and equality of opportunity for all. Discrimination and prejudice of any sort impoverishes everyone. The diversity of individuals is valued and recognised as enhancing the work of the National Probation Service in Cumbria. The Cumbria Probation Board will work towards the eradication of oppressive behaviour by the implementation of fair policies and practices in the work place. We believe that no one should be discriminated against for any reason, including gender, race, ethnic or national origin, disability, sexual orientation, religious belief or age. We work closely with the Multi Agency County Race and Diversity Partnership as well as with other Probation Areas in the region to increase awareness and promote diversity. Through our Diversity Reference Group, we regularly review the Diversity Race Equality Action Plan. We also seek to encourage applications for employment from disabled people. We are proud to possess the ‘Positive about Disabled People’ employer benchmark as a sign of our commitment to this. Cumbria Probation Area has adopted the Diversity Excellence model to enable us to benchmark ourselves now and measure how we improve over the next few years in achieving best practice in the area of diversity. The Diversity Excellence Model (DEM) is based upon the European Excellence Model but with the DEM matters of diversity are addressed throughout the measurement process. |
