Approved PremisesApproved Premises provide accommodation for offenders who are either on bail and have no other suitable accommodation, or who are on license from Prison and are ordered by the Court to live there. They provide a greater level of supervision and support than would normally be possible to offenders residing at other locations. Approved Premises play a significant role in helping to protect the public by monitoring offenders and helping to ease them back into the community. Residents must adhere to strict rules including the attendance of activities and programmes which encourage them to lead law abiding lives. If the offenders fail to abide by these rules, then they can be sent to Court or returned to prison and loose their place in the hostel. Cumbria is home to one Approved Premises - the Bowling Green Approved Premises, which we fund and manage. Residents here receive full supervision available 24 hours a day, (including an overnight curfew) whilst being in a structured environment. The Bowling Green Approved Premises has 24 beds and consistently achieves a high occupancy rate. All residents are encouraged to use their time constructively and have the opportunity to achieve a range of Basic Skill awards which can help them gain employment. Whenever appropriate staff of the Approved Premises work with other agencies and the Local Authority to ensure that the local community is kept informed of the work of the Probation Service in Approved Premises.
