Our Aims

The National Probation Service is a law enforcement agency that exists to supervise offenders in the community and help them lead law abiding lives.  It is separated into 42 probation areas – Cumbria being one of them.

The main aims of the National Probation Service are:

1. to protect the public  
2. reduce re-offending  
3. the proper punishment of offenders in the community 
4. ensuring offender’s awareness of the effects of crime on victims and communities  
5. the rehabilitation of offenders

Cumbria Probation Service seeks to actively meet these aims.
